My Review:
This book was a
good conclusion to a series.
It picks up right where the last book left off with the revenants in Abbey's room after Vincent attacked her. This book is really hard to describe. Abbey is stuck waiting to be completed with Caspian, the revenants are watching her to protect her from Vincent, Abbey meets a new girl Cyn who was assigned Kristen's locker and the Hollow ball/Caspian's Death Day is arriving. A new problem arises for Caspian who keeps falling into a deep sleep and wakes up days later. He is also losing his ability to touch things.
There is really not much action in the book aside from the end and even then there wasn't much. The Revenants (Uri, Kame, Sophie and Cacey) are tightlipped about what they are and how they help shades and their living halves. The reader really gets no answers until the end when Vincent tells Abbey everything and then its like information overload.
In this book Abbey begins to doubt her choice to die. She has friends in school that she enjoys hanging out with and she looks forward to running her shop, which she now has because her mom rented her store for a year as a graduation gift for Abbey. Abbey also doesn't want to stop making her perfumes which she believes she has to do when she is a shade. She just has all these questions and is beginning to doubt herself. She loves Caspian with all her heart but she doesn't want to regret missing out on all the things she had planned for herself.
What really made me give this book four stars was the romance. It was so sweet and they both really love each other. Caspian is very protective of Abbey and doesn't want her to give up her life to be with him as a shade. He really is the best boyfriend. He convinces Abbey to go to her senior prom at the hollow ball with Ben because he wants her to have that experience even though it kills him to see her go with Ben. But he does it for her. I got very emotional during Caspian's death day because it was they day they could finally touch each other. And is wasn't all about sex even though there was plenty of that. It was all about touching, like holding hands and touching each other's hair and face and kissing. There was so emotion in the two chapters for his death day that the reader can't just help but feel it too. I can't imagine what it would be like to be with your significant other and not be able to touch them. Not to poke them or hug them or kiss them. It would be torture. So those chapters were all about their love for each other. It was almost tangible when reading it. I just love their romance where they will do anything for each other. Abbey is willing to die to be with Caspian and he is willing to fade away or move on to keep her alive and safe.
The ending had a little surprise/twist at the end but it was mainly a good ending for all the characters, which I was sooo grateful for. I hate unhappy endings or endings where everything sucks. In my opinion this was the best book of the series.
