These violent
delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume.
-William Shakespeare, ROMEO AND JULIET
Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, who made the sacrifice to ensure his own immortality. But Romeo didn't anticipate that Juliet would be granted eternal life as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light.
For seven hundred years, Juliet has struggled to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent, while Romeo has fought for the dark side, seeking to destroy the human heart. Until now.
Now Juliet has found her own forbidden love, and Romeo, O Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy their happiness.
Secrets unfold and surprises abound in Stacey Jay's powerfully dark romance, which reunites literature's most tragic couple.

My Review:
So I just re-read
this book and decided to write a new review. I looked at my old one and it was
quite spoilery. That was when I first started writing reviews and didn't really
know what I was doing. So here's the new one.
First off I really liked this book and my rating of it still stands. I had just finished reading the No Fear Shakespeare version of Romeo and Juliet and now I'm on a Romeo and Juliet kick, reading all the books I own with them or shakespeare as characters.... Yes I get obsessed with things...
Anywho I liked how the author retold the characters of Romeo and Juliet. In this book Romeo and Juliet are on opposite sides fighting for the souls of people who fall in true love. Juliet works for the ambassadors of light who are on the good side and who protect couples experiencing true love from the mercenaries of the apocalypse who Romeo works for. Juliet became an ambassador when she was dying like Shakespeare's play said. She made vows to work for them and have been for 700 years. To work for them she periodically gets put into living people's bodies and inhibits it for a few days until her mission is complete. Romeo is a mercenary who's job is to destroy true love and get one of the lovers to become a mercenary. So everytime Juliet is put on a mission, Romeo is always there fighting her. That's kind of their curse. I think this is all so interesting and so creative.
For this mission Juliet is sent to inhabit Ariel Dragland's body to find her two soul mates and get them to declare their love for each other. Of course Romeo shows up too.
I really liked Juliet. She was kick ass, strong and didn't take crap from Romeo. She always has her job in mind and while things happen to screw this up because come on, if things didn't get screwed up then there wouldn't a story. She hates Romeo for what happened to them when they were both alive and she fights against him as hard as she can. Juliet has a very strong personality and always wants to do whats right. She is loyal to her beliefs even when she has doubts. Despite her feelings she works hard at her job in trying to get her two soulmates together.
I liked Romeo also even if he was a creep and the bad guy. He is ruthless and doesn't care about killing anyone. He is very sure of himself and cocky about his ability to win against Juliet. However through out the book you can see the softer side of him, the faint humanity that is there so the reader can't completely write him off. He develops a bit of a conscience about what's going on and what he has been doing for the past hundreds of years. But he is completely still dangerous and a bit deranged. Which is why I like him. He has personality.
Of course there can't be a story with Romeo and Juliet without romance although it may not necessarily be between Romeo and Juliet. I'm not going to say who the romance is between but I will say that the romance is adorable and cute. I actually loved it. It was kinda insta-lovey but this is a Romeo and Juliet story for Pete's sakes! They fell in love with in less than a day in the original play. Of course there will be some insta love. However it worked for this story and I didn't mind it. The reader could tell that it was true love between these two people. The way the guy confessed his love to the girl....it was swoon worthy. The guy loves the girl very much and wants to be there for her in everything. She feels the same way too. It was perfect.
I really enjoyed the book and I can't wait to read it's sequel "Romeo Redeemed" which is, you guessed it all about Romeo.
